New years eve
Rockin or non-rockin it's new years eve once again! (if you want it rockin, go ahead and get down with your rockin self. or not) Time for reflections of what has happened this past year as well as a chance to look forward to the upcoming year. A time to count down the last moments of 2008 before we journey on into 2009. A time to celebrate the past and the future at the same time. Time to ring in the new year (I'm pretty sure they are ringing the peace bell in newport again this year, I'll try to double check that today if I can). A time to Party! Maybe Prince will make a new song so we can party like it's 2009, or not. Still it's a chance to wear a party hat, blow noisemakers, shoot streamers and act crazy along with all the other revelers around the world. Of course, many will celebrate at home, watching the many tv specials...
ABC's 31/2 hours of programming begins at 10 ET (tape delay PT). Seacrest will host live performances from Times Square, where Idol finalist Kellie Pickler will serve as a roving on-air "correspondent." After a break for local news, ABC will air performances from Hollywood and Times Square, plus the traditional countdown, till after 2 a.m.
Lionel Ritchie, Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers will perform from New York. Natasha Bedingfield, Fall Out Boy, Jesse McCartney, Ne-Yo, Solange and Robin Thicke will perform during the Hollywood segments, hosted by singer Fergie. Her Black Eyed Peas bandmate, will.i.am, also is scheduled to play.
"? NBC's New Year's Eve With Carson Daly comes to prime time for the first time in its five-year history. It starts with an hour at 10 p.m. ET/tape delay PT, then continues at 11:30. Elton John will perform live via satellite from London, plus hits on this side of the Atlantic by Katy Perry, Ludacris, the Ting Tings and T.I. Correspondents Alison Stewart and Luke Russert will report from crowd level in Times Square.
"? Fox's New Year's Eve Live from Las Vegas is anchored by talk host Spike Feresten and Hole in the Wall's Mark Thompson. It kicks off at 11 ET/PT, with performances by Idol alumni Daughtry and David Cook, plus Scott Weiland, Lynryd Skynryd and a motorcycle jump by Robbie Knievel.
"? Live From Lincoln Center, it's PBS' New York Philharmonic New Year's Eve. The show, with Lorin Maazel conducting and operatic favorites from mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, starts at 8 p.m. ET/PT and then repeats at 10 (times may vary).
"? CNN's New Year's Eve With Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin, broadcast from Times Square with the odd-couple comedy/correspondent duo, begins at 11 p.m. ET/8 PT with appearances by Lil Wayne and My Morning Jacket.
"? Fox News offers U Party 2009, also starting at 11 ET/8 PT, hosted by anchors Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly from the Square, with LoCash Cowboys and Chuck Hicks.
"? MTV goes tween-star with FNMTV Presents: A Miley-Sized Surprise, as Miley Cyrus hangs for a day with, and performs from the bedroom of, one lucky fan. The Hannah Montana star will be helped, starting at 8 ET/PT (and repeating at 10:30), by Metro Station, All Time Low, The Academy Is ..., Kevin Rudolf and Aussie singing twins The Veronicas.
"? And BET's 106 & Party (11 ET/PT), hosted by 106 & Park's Terrence and Rocsi, will feature performances by Jasmine Sullivan, Brandy, Ray J, Jadakiss and Brutha.
Others will venture out to parties everywhere to welcome in the new year with friends, family or just about anyone who will yell happy new year with them.

So here's to the future. Here's to thursday not only being a brand new day but a brand new year. Here's to a better and brighter year and a more prosperous one. And here's to remembering to have all your hangover remedies on hand tonight before you begin your new years eve soiree. Lets all start it off on the right foot (or the left foot if that's your thing. And if it is have at it and knock yourself out)
